Elizabeth H. (Price) Zimmerman, wife of former General Superintendent Thomas F. Zimmerman, passed away March 18 at Maranatha Village in Springfield, Missouri, after a short illness. She was 93.
The daughter of minister John L. and Elizabeth Price, Elizabeth was born on September 29, 1914. While her parents led the Apostolic (Pentecostal) Church in Indianapolis, Indiana, she met and later married the assistant pastor, Thomas Zimmerman, on June 17, 1933. That same year, the couple set out on what would become decades of ministerial service.
The Zimmerman's first served as part-time pastors at a church in Kokomo, Indiana. The next year, they entered their first full-time pastorate in Harrodsburg, Indiana, where they prayerfully managed to live on the $2.68-a-week average offerings. Pastorates in South Bend, Indiana; Granite City, Illinois; Springfield, Missouri; and Cleveland, Ohio; followed over the next 18 years.
After she and her husband returned to Springfield when he was elected as the Assemblies of God assistant general superintendent in 1952, Elizabeth again was an active member of Central Assembly of God - the church they had pastored several years earlier. In 1959, Thomas was elected general superintendent, and began what would be the longest tenure of any AG general superintendent - 26 years (1959-1985) - with Elizabeth at his side.
"Sister Z,' as she was affectionately known, has been a big part of my life since I was 15 years old," states General Superintendent George O. Wood. "Her sense of humor coupled with her warm hospitality made a deep impression on me. The growth and fruitfulness of the Assemblies of God can be greatly credited greatly to the wise and far-sighted leadership of Thomas F. Zimmerman. However, he could not have done what he did had not it been for his wife backing him all the way. She was a great first lady for the Assemblies of God."
In 1991, after 57 years of marriage, Thomas passed away. Elizabeth remained active and independent for many years, but then her health began to decline. Her daughter moved to Springfield to assist her in 2003. In 2007, Elizabeth moved to Maranatha Village, an Assemblies of God retirement center located in Springfield, which her husband had spearheaded the creation of more than three decades prior.
Elizabeth was an active member of Central Assembly of God for more than 60 years. She also served on the Evangel University and Central Bible College women's auxiliaries, was a volunteer caregiver at Maranatha and was easily recognized as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Visitation for Elizabeth Zimmerman will be held Thursday, March 20 from 4-8 p.m. in the chapel at Maranatha Village. Funeral services are to be held at Central Assembly of God in Springfield on Friday at 10 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Greenlawn North.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, a brother and a granddaughter. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth (Betty) Tinlin, of Springfield, Missouri; two sons, T. F. Zimmerman III (Bud) of Washington, D.C.; and David of Springfield, Missouri; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to Seasons Hospice's caregivers and the caregivers at Maranatha Lodge 2 for their love, concern and comfort given to Elizabeth. The family has established a memorial fund for the Zimmermans at Maranatha Village.
According to a census study, forty percent of children living in this area, live in poverty. On a day when the weather was perfect, 78 and sunny, over 900 volunteers packed the outreach site ready to serve. The event took place on the side of town known as Allison Hill. The neighborhood is ravaged by gangs, gunfire and drugs. According to a census study, forty percent of children living in this area, live in poverty. In the middle of this neighborhood 4,486 guests were greeted not by hate, but by loving volunteers that created an environment of hope. Outreach Director Michael Redmon commented he has never seen the guest of honor principle emphasized and practiced as much as he witnessed in Harrisburg. Guests walked throught the site with volunteers to meet yet another set of volunteers to carry groceries to their car. In addition to the free groceries a large medical area was set up for the guests to take advantage of several different types of screenings and dental services. The haircut area was packed with guests who received a free haircut provided by students from a local cosmetology school. Local companies displayed job opportunities for those seeking employment. Families entered an inviting kid’s carnival area for the children to play and free snow cones and cotton candy. Hotdogs and chips were served while guests relaxed under a tent where they were entertained by great music. In the prayer tent over 2,000 guests prayed with volunteers. Crystal, a volunteer from Reclaim the Streets Ministry said, “even though this is a one day thing, we know something like this will help hurting people know they are not alone and to see there are compassionate people who care about them.” Seven churches from this neighborhood will spend the next 90 days following up on guests, connecting them with organizations and churches that will support lasting changes in their lives.

Thank You Pastor
I know that up in heaven You're not supposed to cry
But I am almost surethere were tears in your eyes
As Jesus took your hand And you stood before the Lord
He said, "Rodger look around you For great is your reward"Thank you for giving to the Lord
